Dr. Dora Clayton-Jones, associate professor in the College of Nursing, was named to BizTimes Milwaukee’s list of Notable Health Care Leaders.
As noted in the article, Clayton-Jones brings more than three decades of nursing experience to her classes, research and advocacy work. As immediate past president and current board member of the International Association of Sickle Cell Nurses and Professional Associates, she champions awareness for youth living with sickle cell disease. She also raises funds to support their academic aspirations.
Her POSSE Project, a research initiative funded by a $450,000 fellowship grant from the University of California, Davis, works to improve the quality of life for Milwaukee residents ages 18 to 20 living with sickle cell disease.
In October, Clayton-Jones was named a Fellow for the American Academy of Nursing, which recognizes distinguished nurse leaders for their significant contributions to health and health care. She is the first African American Pediatric Nurse Practitioner to be inducted as a fellow from Wisconsin.
Notable Health Care Leaders is part of BizTimes Milwaukee’s Notable series, which recognizes leaders in the southeastern Wisconsin business community. Those selected have demonstrated excellence in their field and the ability to effect change within the organization, industry or community.
