Dr. E. J. and Margaret O’Brien Hall, the home of Marquette Business, was selected by the American Institute of Architects Wisconsin as one of three 2023 Honor Awards winners, the organization’s highest distinction.
O’Brien Hall, the largest fully donor-funded construction project in university history, opened its doors to students, faculty and staff in January. The $60 million, 100,000 square-foot facility was built for the future with maximum flexibility and state-of-the-art, globally connective technology, anchoring the west gateway to campus.
A nationally distinguished jury from outside of Wisconsin selected the award-winning projects. O’Brien Hall was commended for its inventive use of brick, visual transparency, clarity of programmatic spatial organization, quality lighting and daylight, and reduction in sensory noise.
AIA Wisconsin has been promoting, supporting and advocating on behalf of architects in the state of Wisconsin since 1911. The member organization focuses on providing continuing education to architects and designing a better built environment for the future.
O’Brien Hall will be recognized at AIA Wisconsin’s third annual Design Awards Gala on Friday, Sept. 15, at Milwaukee’s Mitchell Park Domes.
