Beginning Saturday, Feb. 4, beer and wine will be available to purchase for fans 21 and older at the Al McGuire Center and at Valley Fields. Additionally, the Al will feature the new ’77 Golden Ale beer from student-led Blue & Gold Brewing exclusively on National Marquette Day.
The university researched and explored this opportunity to provide an enhanced fan experience across basketball, volleyball, lacrosse and soccer events. It also brings Marquette Athletics in line with its peers in the BIG EAST and many other colleges and universities in the Big Ten, Big 12, ACC, SEC and other major NCAA conferences that offer beer and wine sales during games.
Beer and wine sales at Valley Fields are limited to when the stadium is being used. Sales will not be available for games played in the seasonal dome.
“Giving fans more beverage options helps elevate the experience for our Marquette alumni, parents and students of legal drinking age who are used to similar accommodations at sporting events in our city and when enjoying games on the road,” said Bill Scholl, vice president and director of intercollegiate athletics. “We encourage fans to enjoy responsibly and be positive contributors to the game atmosphere.”
Initially, beer and wine will be sold in cans. Alcohol sales are also available elsewhere on campus, such as at the Union Sports Annex and during special events and are managed through Sodexo, which will also manage sales at the Al and Valley Fields.
