The Humanities Research Colloquium will host its next seminar on Wednesday, March 3, from 4 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.
Dr. Robert Smith, Harry G. John professor of history and CURTO director, Dr. Theresa Tobin, associate professor of philosophy, and Marisola Xhelili Ciaccio, doctoral candidate in philosophy, will present “The Education Preparedness Program: Reimagining the University’s Role in Decarceration.”
The research team, which includes Dr. Darren Wheelock director of criminal justice data analytics program and associate professor, recently received a $745,000 Mellon Foundation grant to support the creation of a program that expands educational opportunities for those impacted by incarceration. The program will create a prison-to-school pipeline by offering high-impact educational experiences, aiding matriculation to four-year schools, and supporting services that promote the successful reentry of returning citizens.
The session will present an overview of this initiative and make the case for the university’s role in decarceration. The talk will be followed by discussion.
