Terence Miller, director of the Office of International Education, received the Distinguished Service Award from Scholars at Risk (SAR) in recognition of his outstanding dedication and commitment to protecting scholars and the freedom to think, question and share ideas.
Miller serves as Marquette’s primary representative to the SAR network, acting as a point of contact for faculty and students interested in SAR programming. He was recognized for his dedication and leadership, enabling the university to be a leader in promoting academic freedom.

Scholars at Risk is an international network of institutions and individuals whose mission it is to protect scholars and promote academic freedom. By arranging temporary academic positions at member universities and colleges, Scholars at Risk offers safety to scholars facing grave threats, so scholars’ ideas are not lost and they can keep working until conditions improve and they are able to return to their home countries.
