Marquette is participating in the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities Mission Priority Examen process during the 2019-20 academic year. The Mission Priority Examen provides space and structure for each Jesuit college and university to undertake serious discussions about how they understand their school’s authentic mission, establish goals for the future, and set forth new or renewed means of realizing those goals in the years to come.
The Steering Committee spent fall semester gathering feedback from faculty, staff, students, the Jesuit Community and the Board of Trustees on areas of strength and improvement related to living our Catholic, Jesuit mission. More than 560 people completed a survey to gather feedback, and conversations were held with various groups across campus and the greater community, including:
- University Leadership Council
- Many college and academic departments
- Jesuit Community
- Student Affairs
- Marketing and Communication
- University Advancement
- Human Resources
- Mission and Ministry
- MUSG
- Board of Trustees
- Milwaukee Archbishop Jerome Listecki
The Steering Committee used the input to develop a draft report, which was shared with a team of peer visitors who will be coming to campus Jan. 22-24 to meet with individuals and gather their own feedback. The visiting team will be meeting with around 50 people from across campus, including President Michael R. Lovell.
The peer visitor chair is Dr. Debra Mooney, vice president for mission at Xavier University. The other peer visitor committee members are: Molly Billings, senior director of human resources at Creighton University, Rev. George Drance, S.J., artist in residence at Fordham University and Dr. Alan Miciak, dean of the Boler College of Business at John Carroll University.
The Mission Priority Examen report is expected to be finalized in April 2020 and sent to AJCU leadership, and ultimately to Jesuit Superior General Father Arturo Sosa, S.J., in Rome, for his approval and affirmation. Visit the Mission Priority Examen website to learn more about the process.
