Join the Department of Political Science for an informal discussion and Q&A with Jonathan Black, who spent more than two decades advising successive British prime ministers on foreign policy, national security and technology, on Monday, Sept. 28, at 11 a.m. in Eckstein Hall 363.

During his career in senior UK government roles, Black served as the prime minister’s G7 and G20 sherpa, deputy national security adviser, a lead Brexit negotiator and the PM’s representative for the 2023 AI Safety Summit at Bletchley Park. He is currently a distinguished visiting fellow at Columbia University’s School of International and Public Affairs and a senior visiting fellow at the Ditchley Foundation.
The session is designed to give students an unvarnished look at how high-stakes international negotiations and policy decisions work in practice. Rather than a formal lecture, the event will focus primarily on open discussion, giving participants the chance to ask questions about advising heads of government during major diplomatic crises, the realities of international statecraft or the emerging policy and regulatory challenges surrounding artificial intelligence.
