The Center for Peacemaking and the Faber Center invite faculty and staff to participate in a fall reading group on Magnifica Humanitas, Pope Leo XIV’s first encyclical and a reflection on artificial intelligence, human dignity and the future of human flourishing.
Through five biweekly conversations, participants will engage themes drawn from Catholic Social Thought and consider the implications of emerging technologies for higher education, professional practice, and Marquette’s Catholic and Jesuit mission.
Reading groups will bring together colleagues from across the university for thoughtful interdisciplinary discussion and reflection. Participants are encouraged to attend all sessions, though individuals unable to participate in the full series are welcome to join as schedules permit.
Groups will be offered at the following times:
- Mondays, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Oct. 5 and 19, Nov. 2, 16, and 30)
- Tuesdays, 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. (Oct. 6 and 20, Nov. 3 and 17, Dec. 1)
- Wednesdays, noon to 1 p.m. (Oct. 7 and 21, Nov. 4 and 18, and Dec. 2)
- Thursdays, 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. (Oct. 8 and 22, Nov. 5 and 19, Dec. 3)
Faculty and staff may indicate both a preferred and secondary meeting time when registering. Register online by Oct. 2 to participate.
The encyclical is available online here, but the first 10 registrants will receive a free print copy courtesy of the Office of Academic Integrity.
