Students can follow in the footsteps of St. Ignatius and St. Francis in a new Core course with a study abroad component in spring 2027. As part of the class, there will be a spring break study abroad trip to Assisi and Rome from March 18-28, 2027. Registration for the study abroad trip is open.
THEO 3300, Francis and Ignatius: Franciscan Spirituality in the Jesuit Context, is a semester long course fulfilling the Discovery Tier requirement for the Individuals and Communities theme. Throughout the semester, students will engage in the lives and spirituality of St. Francis and St. Ignatius to help develop their own sense of identity, dignity and purpose. Special attention will be given to themes of justice, poverty, care for creation and the common good. Ultimately, these themes will help students evaluate their personal leadership capabilities by evaluating how their own gifts, values and experiences can contribute to a life of purpose and service.
Students will then register for THEO 3300 for spring semester. Questions about the class or the pilgrimage can be directed to Dr. Jon Metz, teaching associate professor of theology in the Klingler College of Arts and Sciences.
