Marquette University, through the Office of Faculty Affairs, received a Professional Development Award from the Council of Independent Colleges’ Network of Vocation in Undergraduate Education. The award will fund a professional development program for faculty during academic year 2026–27.
The year-long cohort program, “Called to Transform: Reigniting Faculty Vocation at Marquette,” will give 12 faculty the time, space and resources to reinvigorate their vocation as teachers, scholars and institutional leaders. Directly responding to the challenges of academic burnout discussed in Faculty Affairs programming during academic year 2025–26, the “Called to Transform” cohort will empower participants to reembrace the original calling that led them to academia, rediscover their ideal vision for student growth in their courses and reconnect their work in research and service with their deepest sense of calling.
Participants in the Called to Transform cohort will meet for four afternoon workshop sessions held over the course of the academic year, focused on “Transformative Pedagogy,” “Transformation in an Age of AI,” “Transformation and Institutional Change,” and “Transformation and the Research Vocation.” Guest speakers will share insights at each session, and Ignatian exercises will help faculty connect the content with their own work. The cohort will conclude with a culminating overnight retreat providing dedicated time for each participant to develop an action plan for prioritizing transformation in their faculty work at Marquette.
Participation in the cohort includes lunches at each workshop, reflection materials, the costs of the overnight retreat and a modest stipend.
All interested faculty are asked to complete a brief application. The application deadline is Tuesday, Sept. 1.
