The Vieth Institute for Real Estate Leadership has named Dr. Jeremy Welland, former global head of data and analytics with Google, PayPal and Pandora, as an Executive-in-Residence in artificial intelligence and real estate. In this role, Welland brings nearly two decades of industry-leading experience in data analytics, strategy and artificial intelligence initiatives to Marquette Business.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jeremy to the Vieth Institute team and to Marquette Business,” said Andy Hunt, executive director of the Vieth Institute for Real Estate Leadership and co-director of the AI in Real Estate Lab. “Jeremy is a passionate educator and nationally renowned expert in artificial intelligence. His leadership will support our students and faculty, helping deliver our partner companies outstanding AI-forward talent in real estate, engineering and law.”

Welland, who currently serves as the chief AI and data officer at Measure Well, will act as the co-director of Marquette’s AI in Real Estate Lab. In this role, Welland will contribute heavily to the applied learning and innovation program, pairing students with leading real estate companies to explore and implement AI solutions. Bridging innovation and industry, the AI in Real Estate Lab transcends a typical classroom or internship experience by embedding students directly within companies, where they serve as innovation partners and co-creators.

Welland will also be directly involved in AI Forge, a new club open to students across campus with an interest in artificial intelligence. Welland will offer guidance and mentorship, closely engaging with students as they explore how to use, build and monetize AI through real-world projects and industry connections.

Early in his career, Welland championed data and analytics initiatives at Pacific Gas and Electric Company, where he served as the director of data and analytics for nearly seven years. Welland went on to serve as the head of data and analytics for Pandora, the global head for data and analytics at PayPal, and the global head of data science and analytics with Google. Additionally, he was a professor of data science at University of the Pacific for over seven years and currently serves as a national board member of the YMCA of the USA. Welland earned a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison followed by a doctorate in social cognition and decision science from the University of Michigan.

“Our Executive-in-Residence program is one of the most effective ways we connect Marquette Business with the broader business community,” said Andrew DeGuire, Keyes Dean of the College of Business Administration. “By integrating seasoned industry leaders directly into our curriculum, we give students meaningful, real-world experience before they graduate. They move beyond case studies and actively apply what they learn, guided by professionals who are leading major business initiatives across the globe. Jeremy represents the kind of expertise and generosity that define this program and elevate the Marquette Business experience.”
