The College of Nursing’s annual Commitment to the Profession ceremony is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 27 at the Church of the Gesu. Sophomores in the BSN program will have their ceremony at 1:30 p.m., while students in the Direct Entry Master of Nursing program will have their ceremony at 3 p.m.
Advisers will send an RSVP link to students at the start of the semester. Each student will receive two tickets to distribute to guests. Those tickets can be collected in the Helene Fuld Center for Student Success or the Pleasant Prairie site’s main office in the week prior to the ceremony.
The ceremony involves a “blessing of the hands,” in which faculty members confer a blessing to each student that their hands may be used for healing. Faculty will also distribute lamplighter pins to each student in an homage to Florence Nightingale, who is considered the founder of the modern nursing profession. Each year, hundreds of students participate in this ceremony, committing to the Marquette mission of being a courageous, caring nurse.
