The Graduate School is pleased to announce a weeklong immersive Career Development Bootcamp designed specifically for graduate students and their unique professional development needs.
Planning for a rewarding career while managing the responsibilities of an advanced degree program can feel overwhelming. At the same time, dedicating time to professional development is essential to building a meaningful career that reflects your values and supports your broader life goals. This bootcamp is designed to support both your current academic progress and your long-term career aspirations.
Event Details:
The Bootcamp will take place May 18 through May 22, 2026. Participants will engage in career discernment workshops and visit area employers in Milwaukee, including a for profit business, a local nonprofit organization, and a government agency. The week will conclude with a networking lunch with regional employers on Friday.
The workshop fulfills two PhD Career Skills requirements: GRAD 8097 and GRAD 8098. Participants will also receive $250 in professional development funding.
Eligibility:
All graduate students are eligible to apply, including those participating in May commencement.

Application closes April 15, 2026
Capacity is limited to 30 participants
Participation Commitment:
Participants must commit to attending the full week, as each session builds on the previous one to provide a comprehensive introduction to career discernment and development.
Participants will have the opportunity to:
- Discern personal career values
- Build meaningful professional relationships and expand networks
- Understand the value of informational interviews and strategies for researching career paths
- Translate an academic CV into a professional resume
- Develop a professional or scholarly presence on social media
- Practice formal interview skills through structured role play
- Explore the nonprofit, for profit, and government sectors in Milwaukee
