Fourth-year dental student receives Biomedical Research Award at national symposium

Fourth-year Marquette University School of Dentistry student Grace Flynn received the Biomedical Research Award at the 30th Annual Hinman Student Research Symposium held in Memphis, Tennessee.

Flynn was recognized for a research project titled “Evaluating AI Assistance in Dental Students’ Caries Diagnostic Performance,” which explored the impact of artificial intelligence as an educational and diagnostic aid in dental education. The Hinman Student Research Symposium is a nationally recognized forum that highlights outstanding student scholarship and innovation in dentistry.

Dr. Manal Hamdan, faculty member at the Marquette University School of Dentistry, served as the primary faculty mentor for Flynn’s Hinman abstract. Co-authors on the award-winning project included Mitchell Buban, fourth-year dental student, and faculty members Dr. Cem Gungor, Dr. Cesar Gonzalez, and Dr. Zaid Badr — all of the Marquette University School of Dentistry.
