Celebrate Black History Month in February  

Marquette invites all students, faculty and staff to participate in programs to celebrate Black History Month during February.  

Following are the scheduled events as of Friday, Jan. 30:

  •  Black History Month Kick Off Lunch 
    • Tuesday, Feb. 3 | noon to 1:30 p.m. in AMU 163 
    • Enjoy a performance from the Marquette Gospel Choir and food from Baked Dreams Creations, a Milwaukee black woman-owned catering company, while Derek Mosely, director of the Lubar Center, shares Black History nuggets.
  • Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture: Acting with Grace in the Legacy of Dr. King 
    • Wednesday, Feb. 4 | AMU Monaghan Ballrooms 
    • This panel brings together campus and community leaders to reflect on how the Mission Week theme, Act with Grace, aligns with the teachings and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Panelists will share how King’s commitment to love, justice, courage and nonviolence informs their lives, their roles at the university, and their professional journeys.

  • That’s Doctor to You: Panel and Networking 
    • Thursday, Feb. 12 | 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. (panel from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m., networking from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.) in AMU 163 
    • Refreshments will be provided. Participants can show up to one or both sections of this event. 
  • Ebony Ball 
    • Friday, Feb. 20 | 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms 
    • This year’s theme is Black Renaissance/Harlem Nights. Dinner is provided. Register online
  • Lubar Center’s African American Heritage Tasting Dinner 
    • Sunday, Feb. 22 | 5:30 p.m. at The Ivy House (906 S. Barclay St.) 
    • Lubar Center Director Derek Mosley will explore the rich history of East and West African cuisines.

  • Excursion to the Bronzeville Collective 
    • Thursday, Feb. 26 | 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. 
    • The Bronzeville Collective is home to over 40 local and national creative brands focusing on creatives of color. Celebrate Black History Month by engaging with Milwaukee, learning more about Milwaukee’s Historic Bronzeville district, the Bronzeville Collective and supporting Black and Brown businesses.
