Apply for the Engaging Muslims, Countering Islamophobia immersion by Feb. 9

All Marquette students are invited to apply for the Engaging Muslims, Countering Islamophobia immersion trip to Dearborn, Detroit, and Hamtramck, Michigan.

The program will take place over Easter break, departing campus Wednesday, April 1, and returning Sunday, April 5. Applications and a letter of recommendation are due Monday, Feb. 9.

A $200 program fee covers lodging, food and travel costs. Students who need financial assistance should indicate this in their application.

The program is led by Dr. Louise Cainkar, author of Homeland Insecurity: The Arab American and Muslim American Experience After 9/11,” and is sponsored by the Center for Peacemaking. Through meetings, site visits and reflection, participants will learn about Muslim life in the United States, challenges faced by many Muslim Americans and ways to counter Islamophobia.

More information is available here or in this travel diary from last year’s program.
