Important security changes to the UMR member portal and mobile app will go live on Wednesday, Nov. 19. The existing multi-factor authentication will be updated to only allow a one-time passcode via short message service text message.
What this means for you
Employees enrolled in the university’s medical plan through UMR will no longer be able to answer security questions or receive an OTP via email for MFA, as that process will no longer be supported. Employees should ensure that they have their mobile number and email added to their profile page in the member portal.
Prior to Nov. 19:
- Employees can add or update a mobile phone number and email address by going to umr.com and accessing their profile summary
- Employees cannot directly add a mobile phone number through the mobile app
After Nov. 19, employees will not be able to add their mobile number and email using the portal. Instead, they will need to call customer service for assistance.
Also, employees with no mobile number or email on file will not be able to use the mobile app to perform high-risk transactions like:
- Updating passwords
- Updating mobile numbers
- Adding or updating email
