Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with events in November

Marquette invites all students, faculty and staff to participate in programs to celebrate Native American Heritage Month in November.

Following are the scheduled events as of Friday, Nov. 14.

  • First-Gen, First Nations Social Hour
    • Thursday, Nov. 6 | Noon to 1 p.m. in the Center for Engagement and Inclusion (AMU 111)
    • Celebrate First-Gen Week with first-generation Indigenous students. All students are welcome. Light refreshments will be provided.
  • Beginners beading workshop with Sara Deida
    • Monday, Nov. 10 | 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. in the Center for Engagement and Inclusion (AMU 111)
    • Join for a beginner beading workshop with Sara Deida and engage in Indigenous art. Participants will be able to complete one beaded keychain or pin. Supplies are limited and registration is highly encouraged.
  • Make your own medicine pouch with RL Neshnabe
    • Thursday, Nov. 13 | 2:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Center for Engagement and Inclusion (AMU 111)
    • Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with a medicine pouch workshop run by Rachel Jeske, a certified artisan of the Hannahville Indian Community. Supplies are limited and registration is encouraged (three different sessions).
  • “Two Spirits” movie showing
    • Thursday, Nov. 20 | Noon in the Center for Engagement and Inclusion (AMU 111)
    • Two Spirits interweaves the story of a mother’s loss of her son with a revealing look at a time when the world wasn’t simply divided into male and female and many Native American cultures held places of honor for people of integrated genders. Lunch will be provided.
  • Native American Heritage Month gathering and prayer
    • Friday, Nov. 21 | Noon at the Land and Water Acknowledgment Marker on Eckstein Common
    • Join Campus Ministry in celebrating Native American Heritage Month with a gathering and prayer.
