Acting Provost Sarah Feldner and Dr. Paul Gasser, chair of University Academic Senate, are co-leading the university’s exploration of reorganizing Marquette’s colleges and departmental structures. The effort comes out of a transformative recommendation through the Securing Our Future process, which is being implemented as part of the Marquette 2031 strategic plan.
The university is currently exploring four college structure models — three reorganized models and Marquette’s existing college structure — which are now available to view via the Marquette 2031 Strategic Plan Teams site. (The Teams site and its files are restricted to those with Marquette email addresses.)
An overview of each model follows.
Model: Marquette current state
Retains current structure with: Klingler College of Arts and Sciences; College of Business Administration; Diederich College of Communication; School of Dentistry; College of Education; Opus College of Engineering; Graduate School; College of Health Sciences; Law School; College of Nursing.
Total schools/colleges: 10
Model: Marquette Aqua
Creates three new colleges aligned by discipline:
- Communication, educational policy and leadership, humanities and social sciences (except for psychology)
- Counselor education and counseling psychology, health sciences and psychology
- Biology, chemistry, computer science, engineering, mathematics/statistics and physics
Moves all economics programs under College of Business Administration.
All other current colleges and schools remain the same (School of Dentistry; Graduate School; Law School; College of Nursing).
Total schools/colleges: 8
Model: Marquette Blue
Creates three new colleges aligned by discipline:
- Education, humanities and social sciences
- Computer science, engineering, mathematics/statistics and physics
- Biology, chemistry and health sciences
Moves all economics programs under College of Business Administration.
All other current colleges and schools remain the same (Diederich College of Communication; School of Dentistry; Graduate School; Law School; College of Nursing).

Model: Marquette Gold
Creates three new colleges aligned by discipline:
- Communication, education, humanities and social sciences
- Computer science, engineering, mathematics/statistics and physics
- Biology, chemistry and health sciences

In-person sessions remain to view, provide feedback on models
As a reminder, faculty and staff are encouraged to attend one of three remaining sessions available to get a first look at the reorganization models under consideration and to connect with their colleagues to discuss each of the options. A QR code will be available at the sessions to provide timely feedback via an online form.
No registration or RSVP is required for the following sessions, which are open to all faculty and staff:

College reorganization process timeline
Acting Provost Feldner also shared the timeline for this Securing Our Future transformative initiative:
- Late-October 2025: Campus sessions for discussion of proposed models; meetings with college deans and department chairs
- November 2025: Feedback from sessions shared with campus; college meetings for feedback; refinement of models by acting provost in consultation with University Leadership Council
- December 2025: Recommendation to President Kimo Ah Yun on model for reorganization
- Spring 2026: Campus refinement of reorganization proposal and feedback through shared governance process
- April 2026: If necessary: College reorganization proposal presented to Board of Trustees for approval
- Summer 2026: Deans and Provost’s Cabinet develop plan for timing and key target dates for transition (admissions, registrar, communication, budget realignment, shared governance deadlines)
- Fall 2026– Fall 2027: Implementation planning in the modified college structures to include but is not limited to:
- College leadership and committee structures
- Promotion and tenure documentation updates
- Curriculum updates, if needed; Bulletin updates
- Budget reallocation
- Policy coordination
