The Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute will host “Machine Learning Applications in Macroeconomic Forecasting: Evidence from Inflation and Housing Markets,” as part of its regular virtual speaker series on Thursday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
Dr. N. Kundan Kishor, professor and chair of the Department of Economics at UW-Milwaukee, will discuss how success in macro forecasting requires machine learning techniques with economic theory and institutional knowledge. Kishor will explore and highlight hybrid approaches that leverage both computational power and domain expertise to yield optimal results for policymakers and practitioners.
The Northwestern Mutual Data Science Institute (NMDSI), a partnership between Northwestern Mutual, Marquette University and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, is creating a technology ecosystem and advancing southeastern Wisconsin as a national center for technology, research, business and talent development. Since its inception in 2018, the NMDSI has championed academic data science and technology learning while propelling innovation in key areas. NMDSI-affiliated research projects use data science to address challenging societal issues that have a local and national impact.
