Marquette Wire launches Spanish language section

The Marquette Wire, the official student media of Marquette University, has launched a Spanish language subsection of its news site. The site will have news stories, opinion columns, interviews and stories all written by native Spanish speakers. English translation will be included on each story.

“By promoting Spanish-language content through the Marquette Wire, we fortify the bonds between ethnic groups and bring our students a wealth of culture and human experience,” said Student Media Director Juan Carlos Ampie.

Jaylen Hill, a junior majoring in Spanish and English Literature, will serve as the Wire’s Spanish news correspondent. Emma Alvarado, a junior majoring in advertising, hosts a Spanish music show titled “Del Alambre” every Monday at 5 p.m. on Marquette Radio.

“Language is an essential part of communication, and the world needs content that is accessible, inclusive and makes everyone feel represented and understood,” said Alvarado.

Founded in 2014, the Marquette Wire is a student-run multimedia organization that incorporates the Marquette Tribune newspaper and legacy media outlet, Marquette Magazine, Marquette University Radio and Marquette University Television. The Wire is housed on the second floor of Johnston Hall and is administered through the Diederich College of Communication.
