The Department of Human Resources announced several updates related to improving efficiencies and consistency around employment policies and procedures.
To modernize and better centralize employment information, policies and practices at Marquette, HR has launched an online-only Employee Handbook. (The site is available via campus access or VPN.)
A new University Policy and Procedure, UPP 4-01 Employment Policies and Benefits, was created to bring policies relating to employment and benefits at Marquette into the Employee Handbook. Additionally, UPP 1-01 Introduction to University Policies and Procedures, has been rewritten to clarify the definition of a UPP and introduce a central location for Administrative Departmental Policies and Procedures.
Vacation payout policy, holiday pay practices revised
Marquette has revised its vacation payout policy and holiday pay practices to make them more consistent and equitable across the university. The two revisions, which were recommendations from the Securing Our Future process, will go into effect Oct. 1, 2025.
Vacation payout policy
This revised policy for staff vacation payout upon voluntary termination of employment will include:
- A required, minimum two-week notice of voluntary termination to receive a payout of accrued but unused vacation time
- A required, minimum completion of one year of employment to receive a payout of accrued but unused vacation time
Exceptions to the revised policy may be granted by HR for extenuating situations.
Holiday pay practices
This revision to holiday pay practices ensures university-wide consistency in premium pay for all benefit-eligible, non-exempt employees who work on holidays. It further improves transparency around holiday pay processes university wide.
Effective Oct. 1, 2025, all non-exempt employees’ holiday premium pay will be 1.5x their respective pay rates.
