Textbook affordability and student success panel discussion, Oct. 7

“Textbook Affordability and Student Success,” a panel discussion, will be held Tuesday, Oct. 7, from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the Lemonis Center for Student Success multipurpose room.

Student financial stress is one of higher education’s most elusive challenges, but some strategies to offset it are within reach, for example, reducing textbook costs and similar secondary financial stressors.

Learn more about the role of affordable learning on student success and discover opportunities to advance it in Marquette courses. Learn about an initiative underway at Marquette that has already had demonstrable benefits, replacing costly commercial textbooks with free, openly licensed instructional materials.

Register online.

Speakers include faculty and students who have experience with using high-quality, free instructional texts in Marquette courses, as well as librarians with expertise in curating openly licensed scholarly resources.

Panelists include:

  • Julianne Browne, Marquette student and MUSG president
  • Erin Hastings, adjunct instructor of social and cultural sciences
  • Dr. Laurieann Klockow, clinical professor of biomedical sciences
