2025 Employee Engagement Survey results now available

The Office of Human Resources conducted a campus-wide Employee Engagement Survey of all faculty and staff from Feb. 11 to March 21, 2025, to identify key aspects of an employee’s work experience that support and enable people to perform at their best. This was an opportunity for employees to assess Marquette’s strengths and opportunities for improvement in several areas that affect employee engagement.

This employee engagement survey was conducted in conjunction with the university’s recent Campus Climate Study — those results are available online and will be discussed at a campuswide town hall event Thursday, Sept. 11, 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. in the AMU Monaghan Ballrooms.

Thank you to all who participated — our level of employee engagement has a direct link to student success, and we are best able to deliver on the university’s mission when we have engaged employees who help us make Marquette the best it can be.

Survey questions focused on the following categories:

  • Foundational
  • Relationship with supervisor
  • Relationship with others
  • Institutional
  • Personal and professional growth
  • Overall satisfaction

Responses were anonymous and results are being used to identify and address those areas of engagement which are strengths as well as those that are opportunities for improvement. A full report with the results and findings is available on the HR website. (On-campus access or VPN required.)

2025 results highlights

  • Participation increased by over 7% since 2022.
  • Satisfaction remains high and consistent with results from 2022 — 64% of respondents said they are extremely or somewhat satisfied with Marquette (63% in 2022). Additionally, 82% indicated they were extremely or somewhat satisfied with their chair or direct supervisor (80%) in 2022.
  • While Gallup has reported a decrease in overall employee engagement across industries, Marquette’s 2025 results remained stable since the last survey in 2022. Of the 17 questions asked in the survey, most results remained within 1 to 2 percentage points as the 2022 results.
  • The most positive change experienced in 2025 was employees seeing how their work contributed to Marquette’s strategic plan (+11%). The largest decrease experienced was regarding whether employees felt they had opportunities to learn and grow (-5%).

Survey results will be used to:

  • Provide leaders with actionable insights to make informed decisions around strategies and resources.
  • Help department leaders facilitate conversations with employees to determine engagement priorities.
  • Give tools to create solutions that can improve retention, productivity and foster a positive work environment.

What’s next?

  • Summer: ULC leaders received engagement results specific to their group along with tools to facilitate conversations and action planning.
  • Summer/early-fall: Leaders are to review the results with their team and work together to create an action plan based on the results.
  • Oct. 31: Action plans should be submitted to the appropriate ELT member and HR Business Partner.
