Hall Minister Q&A: Fallon Jones

Fallon Jones

The beginning of a new semester is an exciting time — but it can also be an anxious and stressful experience for some.

In addition to the many resident assistants, each residence hall has a hall minister to provide pastoral care and be a spiritual presence for all residents and building staff.

In collaboration with the staff, hall ministers are charged with helping form a residential community that expresses the university’s Catholic, Jesuit mission, while accompanying individuals dealing with stress, illness, loss, loneliness, relationships, spiritual and emotional health, and more.

In this Q&A, Fallon Jones, hall minister for Cobeen Hall, talks about what she likes the most about Marquette University and Milwaukee.

What was your undergraduate degree in? Why did you pursue that discipline?

At Boston College (Go Eagles!) I majored in theology and minored in studio art. I decided to study theology after participating in a precollege program in Rome! I enjoyed learning about the vastness of religious beliefs and how spirituality fuels many people’s daily lives in many different ways.

Why did you want to be a hall minister?

What Jesuit education offers is something I hold very true to my development at Boston College and my discernment to eventually work in legal aid. To be a hall minister to me is to be one of the many paths students can similarly experience a Jesuit education.

What makes Marquette special to you?

I’ve never been a hall minister. I’ve never gone to law school. And I’ve never gone to a school with a great basketball team. That to me makes Marquette pretty special.

What is your favorite memory made at Marquette or in Milwaukee?

So far, my favorite memory has been meeting and getting to know my RAs. They have given me plenty of recommendations to make more Marquette and Milwaukee memories.

What is one thing you’re looking forward to this academic year?

I’m looking forward to participating in pro bono legal work, leading a faith-based small group and making new friendships in Residential Life, Campus Ministry, and my Law School class.

Favorite book, movie or podcast?

My favorite books are “The Women” by Kristin Hannah or “Eat Pray Love” by Elizabeth Gilbert.

Favorite location on campus?

My new home, Cobeen!

Favorite hobby?

Photography and filling out a monthly newsletter with my college friends.

Favorite restaurant in Milwaukee?

Not sure, yet. Let me know of some good recs!

Favorite dessert?

Ice cream! I can have it for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
