Assumption Day Masses, Aug. 14-15

This week, we celebrate the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This feast celebrates that moment when, at the conclusion of her earthly life, God assumed the Blessed Virgin Mary into heaven.

In celebrating this feast, we celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord, as the Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches, “The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin is a singular participation in her Son’s Resurrection and an anticipation of the resurrection of other Christians” (Catechism n. 966).

Campus Ministry invites all to join in celebrating at Mass. A vigil Mass will be offered Thursday, Aug. 14, at 6:30 p.m. in St. Joan of Arc Chapel. An Assumption Day Mass will be held Friday, Aug. 15, at noon in the Chapel of the Holy Family.

All are welcome.

Catholics are reminded that the Solemnity of the Assumption is a day of precept, sometimes referred to as a “holy day of obligation.”
