Dear alumni and friends of the School of Dentistry,
This edition of eImages comes at a very exciting time for the dental school.
On May 11, we graduated 94 new doctors to begin their careers, and our new cohort of residents have settled into their specialties. And, I am happy to report that we can anticipate adding more students in the future.
We recently passed the CODA accreditation site visit for our planned General Practice Residency program, allowing for a fall start after we receive official notification. In addition, MUSoD has redeveloped its Advanced Standing Program, which will add five permanent international students to our program. Of course, we will also be welcoming our next class of 100 students to begin their MUSoD journeys in less than one month!
This newsletter highlights our latest additions and staff changes, including the departure of Dr. David Mapes, who left Marquette after two transformational years as chair of the Department of Community Dental Sciences. I have named Dr. Pradeep Bhagavatula as interim chair, and I have the utmost confidence that he will be a strong leader of Community Dental Sciences, alongside our faculty, as we prepare to launch our GPR program, strengthen our externship outreach and continue managing the Delta Dental Urgent and Special Care Clinic.
Behind the scenes at the school, our facility revitalization campaign is nearing completion, as our last general dentistry clinic is currently under construction and the Prosthodontics clinic will be renovated this fall. If you have not visited MUSoD since the clinics have been renovated, I highly encourage you to take a tour to see all the great progress and new equipment!
eImages also covers Dr. Brian Hodgson’s appointment to president of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry. Dr. Hodgson is passionate about pediatric and special needs dentistry, and he is most deserving of this honor. It’s great to see so many alumni being recognized for their accomplishments in this newsletter as well.
I look forward to seeing many of you at Alumni Reunion Weekend, September 19-21, here in Milwaukee.
Warm regards,
Dr. Elsbeth Kalenderian
Dean and Professor
Marquette University School of Dentistry
