Dr. Brian Hodgson, Arts ’83, Dent ’87, chair of the Department of General Dental Sciences in the Marquette School of Dentistry, has assumed the role of president of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry (ABPD).
Hodgson’s appointment is the result of a six-year progression while serving on the ABPD’s board of directors. He was added to the board in 2021 following a rigorous vetting process by the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Hodgson was officially appointed president of the ABPD on May 25 after a vote by the general assembly of the AAPD; his term will expire on Dec. 31, 2026.
“Serving as the President of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry is a tremendous honor and privilege,” Hodgson says. “Our organization is the certifying body of the specialty of pediatric dentistry, and to lead my fellow directors and staff in ensuring that our diplomates are properly vetted for initial certification and continually assessed for life-long learning is a vital activity to ensure that we meet our organization’s vision that every child, every adolescent and every individual with special needs deserves quality care.”
Hodgson was named department chair of General Dental Sciences on May 1, 2024. He carries more than 30 years of general dentistry experience that began as an undergraduate and dental student at Marquette. A retired Navy Dental Corps captain, Hodgson specializes in pediatric and special needs dentistry. Read more about his Marquette journey and leadership here.
