Last week, members of the Crisis Management Team and colleagues across campus participated in the university’s annual crisis drill, which is a real-life, real-time crisis scenario to test the university’s crisis management preparedness. The drill offered an opportunity to manage a hypothetical crisis step-by-step and to determine how to effectively respond if it were an actual emergency. The drill was co-facilitated by the Marquette University Police Department and the Office of Marketing and Communication, and included more than 40 staff and faculty members, including the acting provost and EVP/COO.
Outside observers from local law enforcement agencies and community partners attended to learn about how Marquette handles crisis management planning and to provide feedback that will be utilized for an After Action Report to improve for the future.
The Crisis Management Team is led by MUPD Assistant Chief Jeff Kranz and Chief Marketing and Communication Officer Lynn Griffith. The team meets monthly, and its mission is to identify hazards, collaborate on emergency management strategies and initiatives designed to enhance preparedness, and improve the university’s ability to respond to all threats (natural, technological and human-caused).
More information on the university’s crisis planning and emergency procedures can be found on the university safety website.
