Three new specializations added to MBA program

The Master of Business Administration program has added three new focused specializations: clinical immersion in medical device design, data science and artificial intelligence and systems engineering. The latter two specializations are STEM-designated. All three specializations are available for students to pursue starting in fall 2025.

“We have seen a consistent trend in employer demand for leaders who have technical and data proficiency as well as a firm grasp of business fundamentals,” said Karen Rinehart, assistant dean of the Graduate School of Management. “These new specialties will help students gain the knowledge they need to pursue those opportunities as well-rounded, ethical change agents.”

Students in the Marquette MBA can choose between 12 specializations; a key component in Marquette Business’ mission of creating a personalized, customizable learning experience.

Marquette’s MBA ranked 49th among its part-time peers nationally in the 2025 U.S. News and World Report rankings, a 24-spot jump from 2024. It also ranked in the top 20 nationally in six specialty categories—accounting, business analytics, finance, management and supply chain management.

Clinical Immersion in Medical Device Design:

The Clinical Immersion in Medical Device Design Specialization offers students with an engineering background the opportunity to analyze clinical procedures to understand how medical technology is used in the clinical environment, identify unmet clinical needs and integrate bioethical, legal and regulatory considerations into the design and development of medical devices.

The specialization utilizes the Marquette University and Medical College of Wisconsin Joint Department of Biomedical Engineering, blending faculty expertise and the clinical setting.

Data Science and Artificial Intelligence:

The Data Science & Artificial Intelligence Specialization prepares students to enhance the business analytics foundations within the MBA core curriculum with an emphasis on data science and AI topics.

Systems Engineering:

The Systems Engineering Specialization prepares practicing engineers to assess and manage risk, striking a balance among competing objectives. By completing this specialization, students gain the knowledge required to solve complex systems engineering problems in a variety of domains.
