Poker Walk on May 21 provides opportunity to get steps for Walk This Way Challenge

The 2025 Poker Walk will be held Wednesday, May 21, at noon beginning outside Coughlin Hall near the Employee Wellness Center. In the event of rain, the walk will take place at the same time inside the new Wellness + Helfaer Recreation facility. 

The poker walk is a Marquette tradition in which employees complete a walk around campus and collect playing cards at designated points in an effort to make the best poker hand. Prizes will be awarded to the top hands, and all registered participants will be eligible for giveaways. This fun event will run in tandem with the My Wellness program’s Walk This Way Challenge, offering the opportunity for participants to earn additional My Wellness points

The Walk This Way challenge encourages employees to participate in a fun, competitive step challenge. The goal of the challenge is to complete 50,000 steps each week throughout the four-week challenge. Registration is now open, and the challenge runs through Sunday, June 8. Record 50,000 steps for each week by Monday, June 9, to receive 25 My Wellness points. Additionally, anyone who meets the weekly goal for a given week is eligible to win giveaway prizes. 

How do I enroll in the challenge?  

Go to the My Wellness portal and enter your personal username and password. Select challenges from the upper menu or dashboard tile. Under “Available Challenges,” select “Get Started” and “Continue.” You are now enrolled in the challenge. First-time users see the “How do I enroll?”  question section on the MyWellness Program website.  

How do I log my activity?  

Log in to the My Wellness portal and click on the “Challenges” tile. To manually enter your step total for a specific day, select “Log Date,” toggle “No” to “Yes” in the “Select a Value” section, and enter the total number of steps for that day. Click “Save.” While it is recommended that participants log activities each day, you have until the end of the challenge to record your activities. Participants can also sync their fitness trackers for automatic tracking. See the Fitness Device FAQs for more information.  

How am I eligible for My Rewards points and chances for giveaway prizes?  

The goal is to complete at least 50,000 steps each week. Participants who meet the goal throughout the entire four-week challenge will be awarded 25 My Rewards points. Participants who log 50,000 steps in a week will also be entered into the weekly prize giveaway (the week ends each Sunday at 7:00 p.m.). The challenge will be held Monday, May 12, through Sunday, June 8. Registration began Monday, May 5; register 50,000 steps for each week by June 9 to receive your My Wellness points.
