The reimagined David A. Straz, Jr., Hall, home of the College of Nursing, received an “Urbanism Redefined” honor at the 2025 Mayor’s Design Awards. The annual awards honor Milwaukee sites that add value to their neighborhoods by restoring, constructing or enhancing their properties in ways that respect the urban fabric and contribute to the character of their surroundings.
Awards were presented on Friday, May 16.
The College of Nursing officially welcomed students into David A. Straz, Jr., Hall at the start of the fall semester. The building underwent a radical transformation after serving as home to Marquette Business since its initial construction in 1951.
The 103,000-square-foot, five-story building now houses a blend of general use classrooms, skills practice labs, health care simulation spaces, administrative offices and student study areas. Learning spaces are designed for active student learning and equipped with flexible technology to accommodate in-person and hybrid learning that can integrate students at a distance into the classroom.
This marks the second honor for David A. Straz, Jr., Hall this month. The renovation was named among the Top Projects of 2024 by The Daily Reporter at its 26th annual awards event.
