Derek Mosley, director of the Lubar Center for Public Policy and Civic Education, and John Johnson, research fellow in the Lubar Center, were named to Milwaukee Magazine’s list of the 47 most influential movers and shakers in Milwaukee.
Mosley has served as Lubar Center for Public Policy Research and Civic Education director since 2023. Under his leadership, the Law School’s Lubar Center has expanded its programming to include sessions during Black History Month and on unconscious bias, as well as Heritage Dinners in the community, offering participants and attendees an engaging perspective on a variety of issues grounded in current events. A 1995 graduate of Marquette Law School, Mosley for seven years represented the state of Wisconsin in court as an assistant district attorney in Milwaukee County and then served as a judge of the Milwaukee Municipal Court for 20 years.
Johnson specializes in applying research practices from academia and data science to policy issues facing Milwaukee and Wisconsin, focusing on housing, demographics and political trends. Johnson also collaborates with Charles Franklin, professor at Marquette University Law School and director of the Marquette Law School Poll, on all the Law School’s polling projects.
Johnson’s research has appeared in numerous national and regional publications including The Atlantic, The Economist, the Financial Times, WisPolitics, WUWM-FM and Wisconsin Public Radio. His writing appears in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Urban Milwaukee, and the Marquette Lawyer magazine.
