The Kleczka Program was inspired by retired U.S. Congressman Jerry Kleczka’s desire to encourage students to participate in local public leadership and public affairs. As a Milwaukee native, Rep. Kleczka wanted to ensure students had access to mentorship and hands-on experience that comes through low or unpaid internships. For over 20 years, the Kleczka Milwaukee Internship has placed students in local legislative offices and public affairs organizations coupled with classroom instruction and financial assistance.
Building upon Rep. Kleczka’s legacy, the program is gathering program alumni, current and prospective students and local practitioners to build a thriving community of public policy and experiential learning champions.
