FERPA online training reminders

The Office of the Registrar has partnered with the American Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers to offer a new online FERPA training module designed to enhance our commitment to protecting student privacy and ensure compliance with federal regulations.

This new training completely replaces the previous training system. Please ensure that all communications from your department regarding FERPA training point directly to the Office of the Registrar’s FERPA site. Any internal documents referencing the previous training (hosted by GCN Training) must be disposed of and no longer distributed.

There is no longer a separate confidentiality agreement or a certificate of completion provided with the new training, so no documents need to be submitted to the Office of the Registrar. Completion will be tracked directly within CheckMarq through a positive service indicator added within four to five hours of successful completion.

FERPA training is required for new users who need access to student information. Individuals who have already completed FERPA training at Marquette are not required to complete the new training at this time.

A BI report is in development that will identify users who have completed FERPA training, both in the new system and the prior system. An announcement will be made through dataMarq when that report is available.

Contact the Office of the Registrar for questions.
