The Department of Physical Therapy is seeking participants for a study on whether physical activity coaching will help people with complaints of knee pain. All who join the study will receive a Fitbit Inspire 3 and $20 per follow-up assessment ($40 total) as thanks for taking part in the study.
Marquette employees and family members covered on a Marquette medical insurance plan are eligible to participate should they meet the other criteria. To learn more and see whether the study is the right fit for you, visit the screening website or email betalab@marquette.edu.
With the knee being made up of bones, cartilage, ligaments, muscles and nerves, there are a lot of interconnected parts that can impact the feeling and function of one’s knee. The knee is also one of the biggest joints in the human body and supports a lot of the body’s weight. All of this makes the knee one of the most commonly injured joints.
Some tips to avoid injuries and knee pain include:
- Wear the right protective equipment when participating in physical activity
- Do not fight through pain if your knee hurts during or after physical activity
- Give your body time to rest and recover after intense activity
- Stretch and warm up before playing sports or working out
- Cool down and stretch after physical activity
- Make sure your home and workspace are free from clutter that can be tripped on
- Use the proper equipment at home to reach things; never stand on chairs, tables, or countertops
- Use a cane or walker if you have an increased risk of falls
