As we enter the second half of the spring semester, the university would like to remind the campus community of the resources and guidance available as executive orders and other federal actions affecting higher education continue.
Our Catholic, Jesuit mission means we are committed to upholding the inherent dignity of each person created in the likeness of God. At Marquette, we act on that commitment by creating and maintaining a culture of inclusivity and belonging. We remain steadfast in our commitment to serve all as a welcoming learning community that is open to people from a wide variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
The university will continue to share updates on executive orders and federal actions affecting higher education in Marquette Today. Guidance and resources are available and updated regularly. The university will also continue to provide updates via Marquette Today regarding federally funded research for Marquette principal investigators. A running update is available here.
The university is closely monitoring the administration’s anticipated executive order to significantly shrink the U.S. Department of Education, and the university will provide guidance, as necessary, once the specifics of the order are known. The university does not suggest any actions be taken at this time.
A cross-functional team of university leaders has been working together with peer organizations to review the orders and gather accurate legal guidance before determining which actions are necessary – if any – to comply with federal, state and local laws and uphold our Catholic, Jesuit mission. In addition, President Kimo Ah Yun is participating in advocacy efforts with state and Congressional leaders, as detailed in his first “From the President’s Desk” column earlier this month.
Importantly, those who are responsible for maintaining university web pages should refrain from making updates to any web pages (save for routine updates not germane to federal actions) or other materials unless provided guidance to do so by the Office of General Counsel or the Office and Marketing and Communication. Media requests for comment from the university should be directed to the Office of Marketing and Communication.
