‘Stand Up for Your Health: A Randomized Study’ looking for Marquette volunteers

Marquette employees between the ages of 18-79 may be eligible to participate in a clinical research study being conducted by the Medical College of Wisconsin at the Froedtert Health – Milwaukee campus.

The study is titled “Stand Up for Your Health: A Randomized Study,” and is led by Dr. Jacquelyn Kulinski, a cardiologist at Froedtert and MCW.

The purpose of this project is to determine if reducing sitting time during the workday by using a sit to stand desk could improve health outcomes, especially in relation to diabetes and cardiovascular disease.

Study participation involves:

  • Three 4-4.5-hour visits
  • An ultrasound of your arm and leg
  • Blood tests, accelerometer activity assessments, a glucose tolerance test and body composition scan
  • Use of a sit-stand desk

Compensation of $300 for entire study completion ($100 per visit). You may also keep the sit-stand desk at the completion of all visits.

This study is looking for Marquette, MCW and Froedtert employees* who:

  • Have a “sedentary” job, defined as spending at least 75% of their (8 hours or more) workday sitting at a desk (at home or in an office)
  • Have a BMI that is 25.0 or greater
  • Do not currently use a sit-stand workstation during their workday

*Participation in this project must take place outside work hours, during a routine break, or during time off, and your supervisor will need to be notified of study participation (this applies only to the three visits to the research center).

Contact the study coordinator (information below) if you are interested in participating or would like to find out if you would qualify.
