Ryan Theis leaves Marquette after 11 seasons

MU begins a national search for a replacement

Women’s volleyball head coach Ryan Theis has accepted a position at the University of Florida; he leaves Marquette after 11 seasons leading the Golden Eagles.

“We are deeply grateful for Ryan’s leadership and dedication during his time with us,” Marquette Vice President and Director of Athletics Mike Broeker said. “His contributions have been instrumental in elevating our volleyball program and expanding its national presence. As we look back on the significant accomplishments of the past decade-plus, we are confident that our program is well-positioned for continued success in the future.”

Theis recorded a 258-87 overall record during his time at Marquette and his .748 winning percentage ranks as the top in program history. The Madison, Wisconsin, native led the Golden Eagles to three Big East Conference regular season titles and a mark of 154-31 in league play.

Marquette made its third trip to an NCAA Regional in the fall of 2024 and has participated in each of the last 13 full-field NCAA tournaments.

NCAA coaching veteran LJ Marx will serve as interim head coach as a national search for a new head coach begins immediately.
