The Graduate School will host Graduate Student Week with in-person and virtual events from Monday, Feb. 17, through Friday, Feb. 21.
The week includes events for promoting wellness and spirituality, community building and socializing, career networking, a research poster competition, tips for finding grant funding, the Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, and closes with the GSO volleyball and ping pong social. All graduate and professional students are invited to participate in these events.
Monday, Feb. 17
- Free coffee and donuts, 8:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. in Zilber Hall 205
- Networking Is For Everyone, a Career Center presentation, 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- This short, virtual event is designed to help teach strategies for connecting with people and organizations graduate students would like to learn more about. Register online.
Tuesday, Feb. 18
- Wisdom Walk – Tour of Wellness + Helfaer Recreation facility
- The tour includes stops at the Counseling Center, Medical Clinic, Student Wellness and Recreational Sports. Come meet other graduate students and learn about the services and resources these campus units provide.
- Campus Ministry Open House, 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- All graduate and professional students are invited to stop by Campus Ministry, located on the second floor of the Alumni Memorial Union for an open house to learn about campus programming for students of all denominations. Free snacks and beverages will be available.
Wednesday, Feb. 19
- Graduate student poster session, 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in the Beaumier Suites BC, Raynor Memorial Libraries
- The event will showcase and celebrate the top contributions from both doctoral and master’s student research across campus.
- Teaching Assistantship luncheon, 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
- A free lunch and opportunity for all teaching assistants from the academic year to gather in community.
Thursday, Feb. 20
- Introduction to Grant Writing and Finding Funding presentation by the Office of Research and Sponsored Programs, noon to 1 p.m.
- Virtual; Register to attend
- Snack break, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Zilber Hall 205
- Stop by the Graduate School to grab a free healthy snack, treat, soda or water.
Friday, Feb. 21
- Three Minute Thesis competition, 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Weasler Auditorium
- Watch graduate students compete and present their research in three minutes or less using one slide and no animation. See who will walk away with a $500 prize. The winner will additionally represent Marquette in a regional Three Minute Thesis competition.
- Awards will also be presented to teaching assistants recognized for teaching excellence, and awards to faculty in recognition of their outstanding mentorship of graduate students.
- Graduate Student Organization (GSO) Volleyball & Ping Pong Night, 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Union Sports Annex. No RSVP required. Refreshments available.
