A message from Diederich College of Communication Acting Dean Kati Berg

Dear friends of the Diederich College of Communication:

Dr. Kati Berg, acting dean of the Diederich College of Communication

My name is Dr. Kati Berg, and it is my distinct honor to serve as the acting dean of our college. For those of you who do not know me, I joined the college’s faculty in 2006 after completing my Ph.D. at the University of Oregon. Since that time, I have served as the chair of the Strategic Communication Department, associate dean for graduate studies, associate dean for academic affairs and Marquette University’s NCAA faculty representative. In these roles, I have had the pleasure of seeing firsthand the ways in which our faculty works tirelessly to prepare students for the world they will enter upon graduation. I’m immensely proud to share their stories with you here.

Read on to hear about Dave Wilcox’s storied career as an advertising guru where he worked on Super Bowl commercials and how he has brought that expertise to the classroom in our strategic communication majors. We are celebrating his dedication and passion this spring, because he plans to retire in May. In addition, Dr. Young Kim, associate professor of strategic communication, has been named to the top 2% of researchers in his field. Also an enthusiastic advocate for our students, he exemplifies the teacher/scholar model of Marquette faculty. And finally, I encourage you to check out our story of the college’s partnership with Milwaukee Institute of Art & Design that allows our students to explore their creativity and pursue minors in studio art and graphic design. Our faculty and innovative, flexible course work combine to offer students not only a degree but also an experience that prepares them to go out and Be The Difference beyond graduation.

It is my hope that you find these stories as inspiring as I do. I have devoted my career to the field of communication and to studying its impact on our world. It is a joy to share a small piece of that with you.

Sincerely,

Dr. Kati Berg
Acting Dean, Diederich College of Communication
