John Johnson named to Milwaukee Business Journal’s 40 Under 40 

John Johnson, research fellow in the Lubar Center for Public Policy and Civic Education, was named to the Milwaukee Business Journal’s 40 Under 40, a selection of the city’s top up-and-coming professionals. 

Johnson specializes in applying research practices from academia and data science to policy issues facing Milwaukee and Wisconsin. His areas of focus include housing, demographics and political trends. In addition, Johnson collaborates with Charles Franklin, professor of law and public policy and director of the Marquette Law School Poll, on all of the Marquette University Law School’s polling projects. 

Johnson’s research has appeared in numerous national and regional publications including The Atlantic, The Economist, the Financial Times, WisPolitics, WUWM and Wisconsin Public Radio. His writing appears in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, Urban Milwaukee and the Marquette Lawyer magazine. 

Six alumni were additionally named to the list: 

  • Maritza Contreras, senior adviser of American Family Insurance 
  • Lena DeLaet, director of sales and Summerfest Tech at Milwaukee World Festival Inc. 
  • Karina Galicia, Americas treasurer at Johnson Controls 
  • Jill Ingels, vice president of legal and business operations at the Milwaukee Bucks and Fiserv Forum 
  • Michael Nguyen, executive director of Teach For America Milwaukee 
  • Maria Van Hoorn, deputy secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Tourism 

The Milwaukee Business Journal has honored individuals on its 40 Under 40 list for more than three decades. Honorees were selected because of the impact they have had in their jobs, in the community and on Southeast Wisconsin overall.
