Dear friends of the College of Education,
The concept of collaboration is a key tenet of our college’s mission. The best educational outcomes are possible when a variety of perspectives are valued and when we emphasize the Jesuit concept of cura personalis, or care for the whole person, in our approach with young learners.
In this digital issue of Marquette Education, we highlight how all involved in the educational journey – including district leaders, teachers, counselors and students – play an integral role in cultivating a positive experience.
Through a prestigious Spencer Postdoctoral Fellowship from the National Academy of Education, Dr. Julissa Ventura is developing new opportunities for students to share their voices in the classroom. The transformative student voice model at the core of her work reimagines how teachers and school staff interact with students – a role reversal which increases the likelihood for student success.
Marquette’s renewed superintendent licensure program builds on the belief that the success of students and teachers rests in part on the leadership in their schools. The online program is filling a need in producing district leaders who are driven to solve complexities, be innovative and change the educational landscape for the better throughout Wisconsin.
Finally, our new path to ASCA School Counselor Certification, a designation held by just 58 counselors across the country, is developing professionals who meet the highest standards of education, experience and professional development in the field.
Thank you for your continued support of the College of Education. You too play a critical part in developing the next generation of educational excellence.
Sincerely,
Dr. Heidi Bostic
Dean of the College of Education
Dr. Leigh van den Kieboom
