Undocu-Ally Week: A reflection from an anonymous Marquette Dreamer

As part of Undocu-Ally Week, we’ve asked undocumented students to share their stories and explain what it means to have support from the Marquette community. Today we’re sharing the story of a Marquette Dreamer who wished to remain anonymous.

From a young age, I always dreamed of attending Marquette University. That dream was solidified when I had the opportunity to attend the Dreamers Gala during my sophomore year of high school. The sense of solidarity and support I experienced that night made it clear to me that Marquette was where I wanted to be. Since starting my academic journey, Marquette has not only provided me with financial support to pursue a higher education but has also provided me with growth academically, professionally and personally.

I’ve been fortunate to receive endless support from my professors, many of whom have faced similar immigration challenges as I have. Their guidance and mentorship have been critical, especially during moments when I’ve struggled or felt discouraged. Knowing that they understand my journey has given me strength and resilience.

Additionally thanks to Marquette, I’ve gained hands-on experience in my chosen career path, which has allowed me to further explore and confirm my passion for my field. But beyond the academics and professional opportunities, the Jesuit education I’ve received here has been one of the most significant aspects of my development. It’s helped shape my values, deepening my commitment to service and justice. Marquette has truly been a transformative experience, preparing me to achieve my goals and giving me the resources I need to succeed.

Marquette University is committed to supporting undocumented students through various resources and initiatives aimed at fostering inclusion and belonging.
