To celebrate Día de los Muertos, Campus Ministry has set up an ofrenda in the Alumni Memorial Union’s second floor rotunda through Friday, Nov. 1. All members of the Marquette community are invited to visit the ofrenda and place a photo of a loved one who has died.
A prayer service and blessing of the altar will take place on Friday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. Rev. John Thiede, S.J., vice president of mission and ministry, will preside. All are welcome to attend.
Día de los Muertos, or Day of the Dead, is an important Latine cultural celebration. As part of this annual celebration on or around Nov. 1, many people build altars or ofrendas to remember their loved ones who have passed away and recall that these relationships continue.
The Day of the Dead coincides with the universal celebration of All Saints Day, Nov. 1, and All Souls Day, Nov. 2, in the Catholic Church, which point to Jesus as the source of hope for the living and the dead.
