Strategies to optimize social media messaging for recruiting minoritized populations, Sept. 24

Dr. Emily Cramer

Dr. Emily Cramer, associate professor in health communication in the Diederich College of Communication, will speak with the Telehealth Research Community on recruiting minoritized populations on Tuesday, Sept. 24, from 11 a.m. to noon at the 707 Hub.

A light lunch will be provided. RSVP to MU.telehealth@marquette.edu by Thursday, Sept. 19, to attend.

Cramer will describe a study blending the frameworks of community-based participatory research and social identity gratifications to develop social media messaging geared toward clinical trial recruitment of minoritized populations. The project leveraged gratifications of transparency, familiarity, altruism, adaptability, flexibility, recognition and safety into targeted clinical-trial recruitment messages among Black and Latino community members on social platforms.

Ultimately, the study aimed to discern whether seven gratifications prevail in capturing the attention and ultimately the participation of minoritized populations on Facebook compared to “generic” recruitment messages generated by the research team.
