Dear alumni and friends of the School of Dentistry,
This fall, we will celebrate 130 years of the School of Dentistry on Marquette’s campus. As I approach the one-year anniversary of beginning my role as dean, I reflect on the proud history of this dental school and the thousands of dentists who have graduated to make great contributions to our profession. That historical context is important to remember when considering the advancements being made that directly benefit our students, patients and the entire MUSoD community.
We have made great strides in our efforts to keep the next generation of Marquette dentists in the State of Wisconsin with the development of the rural scholarship program and enhanced statewide collaborations. This includes my appointment to Gov. Evers’ Task Force on the Healthcare Workforce, through which I have made sure to raise the importance of oral healthcare at the statewide level. We were pleased to host the Task Force at the School of Dentistry in June, which you will read about in this month’s eImages. You’ll also read about recent research achievements by members of our faculty and progressive student initiatives.
Our beautiful building continues to transform, and I am eager to see the completion of the renovated pediatric clinic and our new urgent and special care clinic this fall. We will be sure to provide updates when they are completed. As always, your continued support is important to foster a state-of-the-art educational setting that simultaneously serves nearly 30,000 patients per year.
I’m incredibly thankful for the foundation of our alumni and greater community who take such great pride in the School of Dentistry. I invite you to join us for Alumni Weekend, Sept. 20-22, where we will celebrate our 130 years of history, honor our esteemed Alumni Award winners and look ahead at the invigorating developments I’ve mentioned.
