Honor President Lovell’s life and legacy at the Dr. Mike Lovell Memorial Run, June 15

Join members of the Marquette community in remembrance of the life and legacy of President Michael R. Lovell at the Dr. Mike Lovell Memorial Run on Saturday, June 15, at 9 a.m. Runners will meet in front of the St. Joan of Arc Chapel for a 2.5-mile walk or run through campus and the nearby neighborhood.

Those unable to attend are encouraged to run or walk at their convenience on Saturday in honor of President Lovell. Photos shared online will be collected for the family in support.

This memorial run was inspired by President Lovell’s daughter, Marissa, and her hope to honor her father through one of his great passions. Running and fitness were dear to President Lovell, who engaged with students and other members of the campus community through a running group founded during his first year on campus. The group often met to begin their journey at this same location, right in the heart of campus.

Running remained a unifying force throughout President Lovell’s decade leading the university. The campus community rallied around him in 2021 following his sarcoma diagnosis at the #LovellStrong 5K Fun Run. Last summer, he ran alongside colleagues, friends and students at the first President’s Fun Run, a new opportunity for the campus community to gather in the spirit of well-being.

If planning to attend, please RSVP on Facebook. There is no fee to participate.

As the Marquette community grieves President Lovell’s passing, the university wants all who are coping with this loss to know that there are spiritual and mental health resources available to help. Opportunities for prayer continue to be held around campus.
