In celebration of the life of Marquette University President Michael R. Lovell, funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 20. A public visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Church of the Gesu, located at 1145 W. Wisconsin Ave. All are welcome to pay their respects.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at Church of the Gesu, with eulogies beginning at 1 p.m. Mass will be celebrated by Most Reverend Jerome E. Listecki, Archbishop of Milwaukee, with Father Bryan F. Summers serving as homilist.
Given limited capacity at Church of the Gesu, the funeral Mass will also be simulcast at the Al McGuire Center, located at 770 N. 12th St. The Eucharist will be made available to those in attendance at the Al McGuire Center.
The funeral Mass will also be livestreamed on the university website.
A public reception beginning at 3 p.m. at the Marquette University Alumni Memorial Union Monaghan Ballroom will immediately follow the funeral Mass. The AMU is located at 1442 W. Wisconsin Ave.
A private burial will follow the Mass.
Free parking is available at the following locations:
- Wells Street Structure, located at 1240 W. Wells St.
- Lot D surface parking, located at 1231 W. Wells St.
- 16th Street Structure, located at 749 N. 16th St.
Together, we pray for President Lovell’s family, especially his wife Amy, his children, his family and friends, as well as for all members of our Marquette and Milwaukee communities, as we grieve this immeasurable loss.
Employees who would like to attend services for President Lovell will need to discuss coverage with their supervisor to ensure continuation of operations. Supervisors of non-exempt (hourly) staff members attending any part of the service may need to adjust the timesheet to mirror regularly scheduled hours for the day as appropriate to result in no paid time added or lost.
