Departmental printing and PrintWise upgrades planned for summer

The Purchasing Department and IT Services have arranged for new multi-functional devices for faculty, staff and students. These new devices will eliminate the current split between faculty/staff and student devices and streamline service and support.

Device deliveries will begin in mid-June and be completed in early-August. The university’s service provider, Gordon Flesch, will contact departments with delivery details as their deployment date nears.

The PrintWise name will now apply to all devices, not just student devices. Faculty and staff will use the same printing software as before. Aside from new print drivers, the experience for faculty and staff will be largely unchanged. Students will now use that software, as well, and will need to download new print drivers.

Highlights of the transition include:

  • Faculty, staff and students can print to any networked machine, including public-facing devices.
  • Low cost per copy rates
  • Paper will be centrally funded. Departments will no longer need to purchase paper from department funds.
  • Departmental cost center accounting and management will continue as before.

Training will be available to help faculty and staff make the most of the new devices. Initial training will be provided at the time of the MFD upgrade, with in-person follow-up training available upon request.
